HAZID, the study to identify risks at an early stage of the project

Early identification of the potential risks of an installation makes it possible to propose solutions in time.

The HAZID(Harzard Identification) study is a powerful tool for identifying external, occupational and facility risks. This technique can be applied during facility design, construction and commissioning.

The study is based on risk identification when much of the project design information is already available, such as process flow diagrams, draft mass and temperature balances, drawing sheets, etcetera. For the application of this methodology, geotechnical, environmental and existing infrastructure data will also be necessary, as these are a source of external risks.

Its application requires joint sessions using the Brainstorming technique with the expert teams involved in the project design, such as engineering, instrumentation, maintenance and operations personnel, who identify and analyze the external, occupational and facility risks to which the project is subject.

The main advantages of a HAZID study are the correct identification of risks and their management at an early stage in the design of a facility. This allows risks to be recorded and addressed in order to avoid, mitigate or highlight them during project design, seeking solutions for compliance with legislative and management regulations. In addition, design or construction delays that can affect the project budget are avoided.
