APQ regulation, impact and new regulations

In this article you will find out if you are affected by the new APQ decree and what changes it includes.

The Storage of Chemical Products (APQ) affects all those companies that store, load, unload or transport hazardous chemical products, whether in solid, liquid or gaseous state. The regulation of these activities has undergone changes in recent years, in TEMA we explain the most important points to take into account.

Currently, the regulation governing APQ for new facilities is Royal Decree 656/2017. This provision applies to those new constructions or to extensions or modifications of existing ones. Installations prior to the standard and that remain unchanged must abide by RD 379/2001, with the exception that the inspection schedule will be that of the current decree, although these will be carried out in accordance with the regulation under which they were legalized.

The new regulation (RD 656/2017) involves a series of modifications in relation to the previous regulation (RD 379/2001). Below, we detail some of the most significant changes.

TEMA’s professionals have extensive knowledge of all the regulations related to APQ and therefore accompany the companies that require it throughout the process. TEMA advises and is in charge of both reviewing the project and legalizing the installation, thus ensuring compliance with the corresponding regulations.
